Graphics drivers are updated via operating system updates. Make sure that you have the latest macOS updates by choosing Software Update from the Apple menu or via Updates in the App Store.
Optional protected resource support was added to Direct3D 12 video operations in WDDM 2.7. For background, protected resources existed before WDDM 2.7, but were available only for cross-API sharing and graphics or compute, not video. Support for protected resources is not reported by the driver as a global thing; it's on a per-operation basis.
Windows Update won't always give you the latest drivers. You must go directly to your card manufacturer’s website to check for driver updates:
Be aware that notebook drivers sometimes have a different name than similar desktop drivers. Some video adapter manufacturers have other software that requires updating in addition to the video driver. Read the update instructions carefully, and contact the video adapter manufacturer directly if you don't understand the instructions.
Driver Compatibility To ensure compatibility, it is recommended to install the latest display drivers provided by the laptop manufacturer (OEM) for both the integrated and discrete graphics processing unit (GPU). You may also consider using the latest compatible generic driver offered by the integrated and discrete graphics manufacturer (s). Try updating the driver for your graphics card (also called a video card, graphics processor, or GPU). A compatible driver can improve performance and let you use more features of your apps.
